This post is to help create awareness of the MS mud run. I received discounted registration however all opinions are my own.
A couple years ago (I can’t believe it’s been that long already) my large extended family (cousins, aunts, uncles, sisters, parents, etc.) decided to form a team and register for the MuckFest MS Mud Run. Like any mud run, it’s essentially a 5K that offers some amazing, MUDDY obstacles along the way. It was above and beyond anything I’d ever seen before though, they had a ginormous climbing rope wall, huge tires, tunnels, a big merry-go-round like rope hanging thing where you dangled above mud and water as it carried you to the next route, and loads more.
We had an absolute blast, and it was for a great cause, as 100% of fundraising dollars go to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. My grandma was diagnosed with MS (multiple sclerosis) over 40 years ago and we had all witnessed how it had affected her everyday life. We wanted to do something to contribute to the cause, in her honor – and we did. We named our team after her, and ran the race for her. We even made her a team captain t-shirt, she was 100% our inspiration.
This year the mud run is coming to the Twin Cities on August 20th and we are so excited to be there again! It’ll be held at the Scott County Fairgrounds:

Tips for the Mud Run
- Pre-register ahead of time, you’ll save money and stress of registering on ‘game day’. Plus, then you can just show up, get your number and get ready for the main event! Oh and side note, I have a special discount code for you guys to save on your registration! Use promo code SPORTY7 to save $7.00 off your Muckfest registration.
- Pick up a pair of old running shoes at Goodwill before the run. You don’t want to ruin a nice pair of tennies! Plus, you can donate the shoes after the run and they wash them up and give them to a good cause.
- Don’t wear shorts. Yes, this is a key factor. I wore capris and it was perfect because you are crawling, rolling, falling, etc. on the dirt and gravel and you can save your knees and legs a little bit with longer pants.
- Bring a towel and change of clothes. At the last run, they had hoses to shower down after the run (very cold, by the way lol, so prepare yourself for that!) and it was so nice to be able to change into a clean pair of clothes before grabbing a bite to eat and heading home. Plus, it made the ride home so much nicer as well.
- Let the kids enjoy the Lil’ Muckers area. It’s kind of neat, they have a small muddy area for the little ones who don’t run the race. Here they can get a little taste of the action, and it keeps them occupied for a long time too! (PS- don’t forget a change of clothes for them as well.)
- Get a group together and make it a party! This was totally a big deal for us as a family, and it was great to be able to round up the whole crew and do it together. I think there was a total of 21 of us, and it was a blast.
Registration
As I mentioned above, you can use promo code SPORTY7 to save $7.00 off your registration cost. Plus, if you register before 8/3, the price is discounted to $80 (regularly $105) – and if you do a group package (more than 4 runners) they have discounts for that as well. So check into what you can find and make sure to register soon so that you can make that cutoff date!
I hope to see your faces there this year, it is such an awesome cause that I feel so strongly about. And we had an absolute blast last time we ran it, obviously as we’re going back again this year! 🙂 See you there!!
Hearts,
Sarah
