Okay guys, don’t yell at me, but I’m late with this week’s Work it Out Wednesday article. Forgive me please? 🙁
Are we over that now? Okay good, let’s move along.
This week’s topic is:
Hey girl, what’s in your gym bag?
I wish I would have had something like this to read when I started working out a lot a couple years ago because I really didn’t know what I should be bringing to the gym. And though it differs depending on what exactly you are going to the gym for (and what kind of facilities your gym has) the basics are generally the same. So are you ready to take a peek?
I know it’s hard to see, so I’m going to help you take a closer look.
Follow me.
Effective Headphones: So let’s focus right in the middle because that’s where the workout usually starts. I like to have my beats when I work out, so my husband bought me these ‘yurbuds’ Ironman series headphones. They are nice because they fit into your ears and stay in while you are running. I like them a lot.
Hair Ties & Head Bands: Above those, I have my hair essentials. One of both sorts. What do I mean? Well I have the tight elastic ones, then the loose tie-bands. I use the loose tie-bands when I don’t want the kink in my hair (usually for yoga or pilates, otherwise they don’t hold as tight as I would like them to).
Swimsuit and Shower Sandals: Post-workout, I like to jump in the hot tub (or sauna) and relax my muscles. So I always have my trusty swimsuit with me along with my shower sandals. I got these ones here from Old Navy for like $2, and they are worth it when you think about how much gross stuff happens on community gym floors… Yuck.
Why a one-piece? Well, here’s the thing… My gym also offers water workout classes and trust me, the bikinis do not do well in that. Also, there’s something just a little bit more tasteful about wearing a one-piece swimsuit around there. I don’t know why, lol.
Hair Care: After the pool time, it’s time to hit the showers. I found this little Liz Claiborne makeup case at Goodwill brand new for I think $5. The handle on the top is perfect for hanging from the shower door hook and that part of it works so good! Inside that bag, I keep shampoo and conditioner (currently this is Suave Professionals – oh and by the way, this rosemary mint stuff smells delicious). For post-shower, I use Unite 7-Seconds detangler and I found a little hairbrush just at Target. When I am out of conditioner, the Kevin Murphy Motion Lotion saves my butt, because it create waves and makes it look less unkempt. It took me a while to accumulate all these hair essentials, and some embarrassing walks out as my hair was a hot mess. Well, that’s enough about that. Let’s carry on.
Body Care: This list is a little shorter. I actually got this little Dove deodorant as a sample from a promotion that Dove was running a while back. The Olay complete moisturizer works well (it also has SPF – bonus!) and I use it on my face every time I leave the gym. It helps to smooth the inevitable raccoon-eyes from the pool and shower, plus it seems to help to even my skin tone. Last but not least, I leave a razor in there, just in case. Oh, and a word to the wise, pack a few tampons/pads in there too. You’ll thank me later.
Beauty & Face: This little blue kit barely ever comes out unless I need to go somewhere immediately following the gym. But nonetheless, you never know, so it’s nice to have it in there. Not currently pictured is a foundation because it just turned summer and my complexion is in between my foundation colors. Otherwise, you’ll see mascara, eyeliner, bronzer, and an eyelash curler. Plus, chapstick. Honestly, I don’t go anywhere without like five things of chapstick so I don’t know why my gym bag only has one currently. *Ponders that for a moment*
Moving on.
Lock: You’ll need one. (Mine isn’t pictured, sorry!)
Pocket-Filled Bag: The only thing left to talk about here is the gym bag itself. I found this one at the Totes store, but you can really use any bag (obviously). This one is pretty old but I can’t seem to find an adequate replacement because this thing packs a serious pouch. No seriously, it’s got pouches everywhere, that’s why I love it. Everything in my gym bag has it’s own little place right now and that is important to me because I’m usually running late and don’t have time to dig through my whole bag to find every little thing. Thus, I love this pocketed bag of mine. Even if it is starting to fall apart.
Well that is it for this week. Did I miss anything? Leave your list of essentials in the comments, I’m curious now!!
Hearts,
Sarah
