Summer is a great time to pack up the family and go somewhere fun for a little getaway. But where do you go to get away? There are so many places that make for great road trips here in Minnesota. I thought I’d share some of my favorites, and with some input from a local Minnesota Chrysler dealer, we put together quite the list!
1. The North Shore
Typically this includes a few different options, but really it’s unlimited. Consider visiting Duluth, Lutsen, Two Harbors, Gooseberry, and a variety of other destinations around there. In the past, this has been one of our favorite family places to go. You can find a wide array of lodging in the area whether you want something more upscale or something more like camping! The options are endless.
2. Twin Cities
I know the term “Twin Cities” is a bit vague, but bear with me. I don’t want to pigeon hole one option when there’s a variety of ways to visit the Twin Cities. You can check into a chic hotel like Radisson Blu at the Mall of America, or the Hilton downtown Minneapolis. Or you can find something like the Great Wolf Lodge in Bloomington where you’ll find an indoor waterpark, zero entry pool, ropes course, climbing wall, bowling alley, restaurant and more – all inside their facility.
3. Brainerd
What I love about the Brainerd area is that you’ll find not only plenty of lakeside resorts, but it’s also a great city in terms of accessibility to things you might want such as a Target, Cub Foods, department stores, Costco, loads of restaurants, Paul Bunyan Land, outdoor zoo and lots more.
4. Red Wing
Possibly more of a naturalistic destination, Red Wing offers some great scenic views and museums. Check out their high-up river bluffs and parks, then when you’re done you can stop into one of their neat museums like the Pottery Museum of Red Wing, the Aliveo Military Museum, or the famous Red Wing Shoe Store and Museum. If you’re still looking for things to do, you can visit one of the vineyards in the area or local restaurants.
