We received a complimentary meal to review for our site. All opinions are mine.
I love the nights when my husband and I can get out for a little date night. These nights usually happen during the week when I’m not teaching class and he’s not traveling for work. They’re rare, but it makes them that more special. Well this past week we went back to check out the new menu at ninetwentyfive in Wayzata, MN. It’s part of the chic Hotel Landing there on Lake Street East, near lake Minnetonka.
First off, it’s so much fun to go there because it just feels like a nice airy, natural area there in Wayzata. There’s a lot of neat shops nearby along with some boutique-y places to check out before or after your meal. The inside of ninetwentyfive is super cozy, but elegant. It has kind of an upscale marina feel (being so close to Lake Minnetonka) and I noticed a lot of the people coming in were business professionals, or families coming off their boats or getting off the golf course. Then there was us, a suburban couple who managed to sneak away from their toddler for the evening. It was a good mix of people 🙂
DRINKS
I have yet to visit ninetwentyfive when I haven’t been pregnant (le sigh) so I have only tried their non-alcoholic drinks so far. But Tyler loves their local brews, this visit he tried the War Pigs, Salmon Pants Lager and he really liked that one. I appreciate that they have cocktails and mocktails so everyone can enjoy a refreshing drink.
They have a pretty extensive drink menu, including wines, beer (draft and bottled), cider, cocktails, and more. I haven’t had a drink there that I haven’t absolutely loved, they all have been amazing.
FOOD
Locally sourced
Ninetwentyfive just redid their menu for the end of summer here. The menu changes with the seasons, due to them bringing it right from the farms nearby, so everything is fresh, and locally produced. With this menu, you’ll find a lot of fresh greens, tomatoes, and other summer produce items.
Minimal waste
I love that they bring the meat and produce in from local farms and beyond that, they make all of their creams and sauces right in house. I met with Chef Daniel there, who was kind enough to go through all of the fine details with us. He emphasized at how much they used of all the food they had, so that nothing would go to waste. They value the Minnesotan farmers and the quality of food they’re able to serve because of them.
We tried several courses throughout the night, but what I really enjoyed was the fact that the food never once felt heavy or greasy. Instead it felt fresh, light, and delicate.
I wanted to highlight some of the dishes we tried, because A) they were incredibly beautiful and photographed well, and B) they SO were worth highlighting!
Smoked Trout Salad
I could eat fresh tomatoes all, day, long. So the fact that they kept recurring in many dishes made my heart happy. Beyond that, check out all the other fresh seasonal veggies and greens that this salad incorporates.
Seared Foie Gras
Essentially liver, this dish was served over fried brown bread, with berry gastrique and anise hyssop. I’m personally not a big liver fan, but my husband loved this dish as he is usually all about wild game and new meats. (Plus, between you and me, he’s very much looking forward to having their quail dish this fall.)
Fried Green Tomatoes
Mmmm, here’s those fresh tomatoes again. And if you ever wanted a way to change up the game a little bit, fried green tomatoes are a good way to go. These were served over a bed of sweet corn-heirloom bean salsa made there in house along with a cilantro creme fraiche. This was a really tasty dish, and the salsa with creme totally made each bite amazing.
Whole Wheat Ravioli
Possibly my favorite of the dishes (it was a toss-up between this and the next one I’ll mention), was the whole wheat ravioli. It was sooo divine. They make the pasta fresh in-house, and you can tell. The sheep milk ricotta basically melted in your mouth and the summer veggies complete with tomato broth was the best kicker you can imagine. I would get this one again, hands down, probably every other time (because I’d have to rotate with my other favorite dish, naturally).
Hand-Rolled Ricotta Cavatelli
If you’re a big pasta fan like me, this is the other dish you will love. I was obsessed with the house-made cavatelli in this dish, and if you want to see how it’s made, Chef Daniel has a super cool Instagram video of him creating them. They were served with summer squash, baby tomatoes, zucchini, garlic confit, parmesan and topped with mint. SO GOOD.
Bison Tenderloin
Another amazing dish, the bison tenderloin was incredibly lean and delicious. Chef Daniel cooked it a little more than he normally would (due to me being pregnant and all) so if the ‘well done’ option isn’t your typical standard, that’s okay because it’s not his either lol! The bison tenderloin was served with fingerling potatoes (so yum), grilled sweet onion, and horseradish cream over a bed of sweet pepper coulis.
DESSERT
Oh and hey, you saved room for dessert right? Usually no, but I told him this pregnant lady would never say no to any type of dessert. Wise choice, right? Because look at these amazingly, decadent desserts they brought out for us.
The ‘icing on the cake’ is dessert! Pictured left, is the Rum Caramel Torte and right is the Strawberry Tartelette.
We had an amazing night trying all their delicious seasonal courses and can’t wait to go back to see what they have in store for fall! But hurry and catch these yummy dishes while they last because before you know it, they’ll be onto the next season!
Catch up with them on Facebook or Instagram and visit them for breakfast, lunch or dinner (or even just for drinks) at:
