Do you have a teen that is about to get their driver’s license? It’s a big deal! And there’s a lot to do to prepare for the new right of passage. Here are some tips for ensuring your teen is safe as they get behind the wheel.
Did you know that 6 out of 10 teen crashes are caused by distracted driving? It’s true, AAA did a study that broke down things like interacting with one or more passengers (15%) or using a cell phone (12%), the list goes on and on. So the top thing to help out your teen driver is to eliminate distractions.
Make rules and ensure they’re enforced. Growing up, my parents had the following rules:
- No cell phones while driving.
- No more than one passenger for the first year.
- No messing with the radio while driving.
- Drive the posted speed limit (or under).
