Have you ever noticed that it can be particularly difficult to defrost your car windows in the winter? The snow and ice can really get packed onto your windshield and windows making it a hefty task to take care of before you’re able to drive anywhere. To make life easier, we’re here to give you the best ways to defrost your new car windows in the winter.
DO…
Use a Deicer – You can use a pre-made solution or create your own deicer to help you with your frozen windows. To make your own, just mix together rubbing alcohol with a few drops of dish soap and place in an empty spray bottle. Shake to mix and you’re ready to battle that ice! Once you spray it on your windows, allow it 1-2 minutes to soak in before you follow up with an ice scraper. It should be much easier to scrape than if you were to use no pre-treatment.
Activate Defrosters – Don’t underestimate the power of starting your vehicle and turning on your auto defrosters. It will help to loosen up the ice/snow to assist in scraping.
Prevent – Attack the enemy at the base by preventing ice or snow from accumulating in the first place. Use a small blanket, large towel, or something similar to cover your windows at night or during the day. You can utilize your wipers to hold that in place.
DON’T…
Use Boiling Water – Unless you want a shattered windshield, do NOT use hot or boiling water. You want to gradually warm the windows to prevent any cracking.
Drive With Partially Covered Windows – Make sure that your windows are clear before you drive. Limited vision creates the perfect scenario to not see an oncoming vehicle or street sign. Always defrost your windows until they are clear!
We hope these tips help to make your life a little easier this winter!
