If you’re anything like myself, you’re new to the tailgating game. It can be a bit intimidating if you haven’t tailgated before because there is a lot to know! You have to think of all kinds of things, and do plenty of prep work before you hit the pavement. Here are my favorite tips for tailgating that will be helpful to anyone, newbie or not, brought to you by my favorite Georgia Dodge dealer!
Essentials
Of course the main ingredients to a tailgate include a BBQ grill, coolers (a wise tip is to pack a few coolers; one for food, one for drinks, and one for raw food that you’ll be grilling up), plates and eating utensils, condiments, napkins (or wet wipes), drinks, tablecloths, aluminum foil (to ease cleanup), lawn chairs and anything similar you can think of.
Utensils
Don’t forget the main tools that you’ll use to cook such as tongs, spatula, or skewers if you’re doing kabobs. Other handy items might include a bottle opener, can opener or basting brush for your sauces.
Games
It’s fun to pass the time tailgating with fun games and activities like corn hole, Yardzee (like Yahtzee but large for the yard), ladder toss, beer pong, washer toss, KanJam (this one is newer, and fun!), ring toss, or any other games your friends/family often play! You can find some new and innovative games online as well if you have time to do some research beforehand.
Extras
This is the category I’m going to use to cover the things that most people would forget if they didn’t have experience tailgating! Items such as garbage bags, and plastic containers for leftovers are must-haves but at easily forgotten. Along the same lines, you’ll want to remember a cutting board and knife, hand sanitizer, sunscreen, and maybe even some insect repellent (depending on your location).
Tips from the Pros
Buzzfeed actually has a great article titled 41 Tailgating Tips That Are Borderline Genius where they offer brilliant ideas like packing hamburger patties in between sheets of wax paper, or filling a disposable aluminum tin with fixings such as tomatoes, lettuce, onion, etc. for easy presentation and super easy cleanup. Check out their article for lots more ideas on cutting corners and making your life easy. Some of the ideas are seriously expert level tailgating!
