As I’d mentioned in a previous article, my husband recently purchased a new truck. It was great to be able to upgrade to something that could tow and haul, plus all the new gadgets on the inside! One decision he had to make when he purchased the truck was whether or not he wanted to subscribe to satellite radio. We did a free trial, and ultimately decided it wasn’t a fit for us. But is it a good fit for you? According to this North Carolina Dodge dealer, there’s a few different things to consider.
The Pro’s
Satellite radio is typically static-free, and commercial-free. It doesn’t require that you are near any stations for you to get service, and therefore is available pretty much anywhere you go. Not to mention, the number of stations available at any given time is much greater than your average FM radio station variety. You can usually choose from up to 200 stations that range from music, to talk radio, news, sports, hobbies and everything in between. There’s pretty much something for everyone!
The Con’s
All of the above being said, satellite radio comes at a cost. Whether you’re willing to pay the price, is up to you. I guess it depends on if you see a high amount of value in the stations provided, and if you drive a lot then you may be more inclined to pay for no ads and more interesting options.
Another con would be that you may have to purchase the equipment and setup could get expensive. Although it seems nowadays that most vehicles are equipped with the necessary equipment, if your vehicle is older then you may run into that problem.
When I weighed the options earlier this summer, it came down to the fact that I have my favorite music already on my phone that I can play through the audio cable. If we want to listen to hobby-type audio, there are podcasts for that. If you want to listen to ‘top of the charts’ music, there are options on Spotify and Pandora for that. So ultimately for us, it was easy to say we could get by without it. But if it’s something that you would use a lot, I could see how it would be a good investment! It seems to be one of those things that varies from person to person!
