I love how technology has come so far when it comes to safety in our vehicles. Even just in the last few years, it’s like we’ve come leaps and bounds from where we were. I spoke to my friends at this Colorado GMC dealer to find out what are the top features making our cars safer in 2019.
Back-Up Cameras
One of my personal favorite features, is the new standard of back-up cameras. Not only does it help with your safety, but also the safety of those walking or driving behind your vehicle. I love that these are coming standard on most new vehicles and they are very effective in a number of ways.
Lane Departure
Sometimes it’s easy to catch ourselves looking off to the distance, paying attention to the car behind us or next to us and we drift from our lane. There are programs like LaneSense that physically correct this for you, or other programs play a warning sound to let you know you’re leaving your lane.
Adaptive Cruise Control
The problem with cruise control in the past is that you can’t control your speed if someone suddenly brakes in front of you or changes their speed. Previously, it was a constant game of ‘what speed is the car in front of me going now’ and then adjusting to match it. Now with adaptive cruise control you can set the distance you’d like to follow the car in front of you and let the vehicle do the rest. It will automatically set to your ideal speed, and then decelerate or accelerate depending on the leading vehicle.
Blind Spot Detection
Another amazing safety feature in vehicles, Blind Spot Detection offers a little peace of mind when you are switching lanes. If there is someone in your blind spot or on the side of your vehicle, a little light will light up in your side mirror or a distinct noise will play in the cabin of your vehicle alerting you that it is not safe to change lanes. This feature instantly minimizes collisions and accidents on the road.
Automatic Emergency Braking
Let’s say we’re in the situation we talked about before and the car in front of you all of a sudden slams on their brakes. If your reaction time is slow, your vehicle takes matters into it’s own hands and will automatically initiate emergency braking, saving you from rear-ending anyone.
There are loads of new safety features hitting the market this year, reducing collisions and incidents every day on the road. What is your favorite safety feature? Share in the comments below!
