The thing that I love about technology is that it’s ever-changing. I feel like as soon as we’re perfected something great, something even better comes out and we wonder how we ever lived without it in the first place. When it comes to automotive technology, it’s a whole new playing field. The things that these vehicle manufacturers are coming out with now just blows me away and after talking to this New York Lexus dealer, I can’t wait to share some of my favorites with you guys today!
First, I want to cover the main ones that some of you probably know about but those of you who are driving a vehicle maybe over six or seven years old, this is probably brand new to you! One of my personal favorite new features is Apple CarPlay which automatically syncs your vehicle to your phone the second you hop into the car to go for a drive. It loads your contacts, music, messages, you name it. Pretty cool right?
A similar feature that is pretty prevalent in many vehicles now days is the bluetooth (or hands-free) connection with your phone which allows you to take calls, make calls, or listen to your music without having to lay a finger on your phone. And in this day and age when that can be tempting, now you don’t have to even worry about it.
A heads-up display has been around for a while but only in certain vehicles. This display can actually project your speed and gauges onto your windshield so that you don’t have to look down to see them. Thus, eliminating any distractions and allowing you to keep your eyes on the road.
Another neat piece of technology we’re starting to see in new vehicles is a top-angle camera which is similar to the backup camera except that it gauges your space from above and makes things like parallel parking a breeze. Many of these offer a simple map of your vehicle from above with a few layers coming off your bumpers showing you how much room you have between your vehicle and the curb or the surrounding vehicles. It’s incredibly handy and an insane new perspective.
Lane departure is another great innovation in technology. This is a feature that stays turned on while you’re driving and if the vehicle senses you drifting out of the lane and gives you a warning or a vibration through the steering wheel. Some vehicles will go as far as to correct the vehicle and override the drift if you don’t have your blinker on.
Technology has come a long way in the automotive industry, which new developments being made every day. Looking ahead to ten years from now, I’m excited to think of what possibilities are on the horizon!
