We’ve covered the topic before of what you should carry in an emergency kit in your vehicle in case you find yourself in a situation where you might need one. But does that safety kit change once you have kids? It did for me, and it just might for you too. So after some deep thoughts, some considerable research and some advice from a South Carolina Chrysler Jeep dealer, I have some ideas for you to consider.
The Standard Emergency Kit
As I mentioned in one of my previous posts (see: How to Prepare Your Car for an Emergency), there are some great items to carry with you at all times in case of emergency. The list typically includes things like a first-aid kit, extra blanket, granola bars and bottled water, coat/hat/mittens for the winter months, emergency contact numbers, and items like that. They can come in handy when you’re needing them.
The Child-Adapted Essentials
So beyond what was already mentioned above in the emergency kit, are the essentials you might need if you often have your kids in the vehicle with you. Some things to consider adding to your regular emergency standards are;
- Extra wipes or diapers
- Extra bottled water and/or formula samples (they work great as single servings)
- Extra granola bars or snacks
- Canister of wet wipes
- Additional blankets/hat/mittens for winter
- Tissues
- Additional flashlights (and batteries)
- Umbrella
- Chapstick
Seasonal items you can change out include a spare change of clothes and underwear for your kids, a few plastic bags for garbage or accidents, sunscreen or bug spray, and a spare of any item that they require on a daily basis. This might be an extra pacifier, sippy cup, or even a power pack to charge up any gadgets that are must-haves.
By being prepared for an accident or an emergency, you can help to eliminate stress on you and your children no matter if the situation at hand is big or small.
