This post is part of a sponsored automotive series. All opinions are mine.
My husband is big on looking at toys. You know what I mean, boats, trailers, ATV’s, you name it. So he’s looked into which vehicles are ideal for towing these types of things. In case you’re in a similar boat (hey, pun not intended) and need a vehicle that has great towing capacity, then stick around and check out these vehicle list I compiled with help from my friends at the North Carolina Jeep dealer.
TRUCKS
Of course, the vehicle that you probably think of when considering a vehicle that hauls is a pick up. These are usually what come to mind because they’re the strong brutes of the auto world.
Ford F-150
With the ability to tow up to 13,200 pounds, the Ford F-150 is one of the top picks for those looking to tow on a regular basis. They have the largest towing capacity when it comes to pickup trucks, and are known for their great gas mileage as well (19 city/25 highway).
Chevrolet Colorado
The Colorado’s towing capacity reaches up to 7,700 pounds and offer the option of a 200-horsepower 4-cylinder, a 308-horsepower V6, or a 181-horsepower turbodiesel. These are a great option for something looking to stay within a budget but still want the pickup truck look and feel. The MSRP on the Colorados start at $20,200.
GMC Sierra
Nearly identical to the Chevrolet Silverado, these two pickups actually tied for #3 on the “Best Trucks for Towing” list, put on by U.S. News. They both have the same towing capacity – 12,500 pounds, and are both very popular vehicles among what you’ll see on the road.
Dodge Ram
One of the vehicles that my husband was most impressed with (when it came to technology within the cab) was the new Rams. They have a towing capacity of up to 12,750 pounds (very similar to that of the Sierra and Silverado), and the ability to upgrade to a 395-horsepower V8 engine. The new 2019’s start at $31,695.
SUV’s
If you’re looking for a vehicle that tows but doesn’t guzzle the gas on your daily commute, an SUV might be another option to consider. There are some serious contenders out there, starting with my own love – the Jeep Grand Cherokee and continuing on from there.
Jeep Grand Cherokee
Like I said, the Grand Cherokee has my heart, it’s what I drive now and it has won me over. It not only comes equipped with some great options for the driver but also has the ability to tow up to 4,500 pounds.
Chevrolet Tahoe
A larger SUV, the Tahoe has a pretty great capability for towing. It maxes out at 8,600 pounds (a pretty large cap for an SUV) and also offers the seating and cargo space that you wouldn’t otherwise find in a pickup truck.
Nissan Pathfinder
A surprising add to the list, the Pathfinder actually has the capability to tow up to 6,000 pounds! It comes with a 3.5 Liter V6 that offers a combined gas mileage of 23 mpg. Not bad, right?
As you can see, there are some great options out there if you’re looking for a new vehicle that can tow your toys! Have you found another vehicle to be added to the list? Leave a comment below and I’ll check it out!
