One of the best features in a vehicle for convenience is the automatic remote start. I’ve owned vehicles without it, and you don’t really know what you’re missing until you have a vehicle with the remote start. But not every remote is created equal, as this Maryland Mazda dealer tells us. That’s why it’s great to consider your options when installing an aftermarket car starter.
Before I get into the different kinds, let’s talk about what you want to look at when considering the remotes. Briefly speaking, you’ll want to think about price, range, features and price range. And when it comes to options, here are some of the most popular ways to go.
Side Note: As technology and information changes, it’s important to check the specs of the actual unit you are purchasing to ensure all details are correct.
Compustar CS800
This remote can lock, unlock, and start your vehicle. It’s a little more complicated to set up but it is considered a great budget-friendly option for someone who wants to install it themselves. This system also has a 1000 ft reach. For a fun fact, the Compustar CS800-S model is compatible with Diesel engines as well.

A little more on the luxury end of the spectrum, the Python has a little more when it comes to options. For starters, it offers a range of up to a mile. Beyond the typical lock and unlock, it also has a trunk release and the ability to find your vehicle where you parked it.

Code Alarm CA6554
Another option that comes with more than the standard features, is the Code Alarm CA6554. This digital remote offers the usual lock and unlock, plus a two-way communication/page. It has a security system, remote start, a range of 2500 feet, valet mode, and even an ignition shut-off in the event of an unauthorized driver.
