We all know that we should have our vehicle looked at regularly to keep it running smoothly, and there are specific milestones to watch along the way. Today I’ve compiled the list of these preventative maintenance mile markers with the help of a friend at this California Jeep dealer. He advocated that having your vehicle regularly maintained can help your vehicle last longer, keep it safer and help it to even operate better on a day-to-day basis.
You’ll want to consult with your vehicle’s owner’s manual for it’s specific recommendations, but this will give you a general idea of what typically needs to be maintained and when.
Preventative Vehicle Maintenance Schedule
Every 3,000-6,000 Miles
Probably the most common maintenance you will perform on your vehicle is oil changes. Typically your owner’s manual will tell you that you need to change your oil ever 3,000 miles. Of course if you use synthetic oil, this timeframe can be extended to somewhere around 5,000-6,000 miles.
30,000 Mile Checkup
Typically your first preventative maintenance is going to be at 30,000 miles. This is going to include your air filter (which should be checked between 15,000-30,000 miles, depending on your environment). You’re also going to check/change your fuel filter at around 30,000 miles.
60,000 Mile Checkup
The 60,000 mile checkup list is a little more lengthy. Typically this milestone includes checking and/or changing your car battery, brake fluid, rotors, coolant, brake pads and transmission fluid.
90,000 Mile Checkup
This mile marker includes checking and/or changing your power steering fluid, your vehicle’s hoses, spark plugs, and your timing belt. Note that some of these things should be watched at your other maintenance appointments because they may need to be changed sooner than later.
There are things you will want to keep checking along the way. For example, it’s a good idea to regularly check your fluid levels, replace your wiper blades when they get streaky, and keep an eye on your tires (if they need to be rotated, balanced, inflated, changed, etc.)
Taking good care of your vehicle has so many benefits. When is the last time you had your vehicle serviced? It just might be time to have that done!
