If you’re in the market to purchase a new vehicle anytime soon, you might be curious to know which manufacturers give the best (or really, longest) factory warranty. Our friends at the Maryland Hyundai dealer recommends taking the factory warranty into consideration when making your vehicle purchase. This is important when things break, because the more time you have you have in your warranty, the less money you will have to spend out of pocket.
Note: Sometimes the factory warranty will change going from the first owner to secondary owners. So if you are buying the car used, take note at what the warranty will become.
#1) Hyundai – Their basic warranty is 5 years or 60,000 miles (whichever comes first) along with a 100,000 miles or 10 year powertrain warranty (which covers where the most expensive issues typically happen). Along with this, Hyundai has a 7 year, unlimited mile warranty on corrosion and even a 5 year, unlimited mile 24-hour roadside assistance service. Please note however that Hyundai’s factory warranty does change as the vehicle goes from the first owner to the second owner. The secondary owner will receive a 5 year, 60,000 mile warranty dated from the time of purchase by the first owner.
#2) Mitsubishi – The Mitsubishi factory warranty is similar to Hyundai, except that both the first owner and the secondary owner receive the same factory warranty package. If you’re purchasing the vehicle second-hand, you’ll receive the remaining balance of limited warranty (five year, 60,000 miles) and also the corrosion warranty (7 year, 100,000 miles). Mitsubishi also offers the same roadside assistance program as Hyundai that runs for 5 years, unlimited miles.
#3) Kia – Kia is right up there with Mitsubishi and Hyundai for factory warranties. They have a basic 5 year, 60,000 mile warranty along with a 10 year, 10,000 mile powertrain warranty. For secondary owners, the powertrain warranty goes to 60 months, or 60,000 miles (whichever comes first). For anti-perforation, you’ll receive five year, 100,000 mile and they also offer a 24-hour roadside assistance program for 5 years, or 60,000 miles.
#4) Volvo – Volvo offers one comprehensive vehicle warranty that covers the typical basic and powertrain all in one. This lasts four years or 50,000 miles. The corrosion package covers unlimited miles and up to 12 years. Volvo offers a unique service – a complimentary service plan that covers the first three “factory-scheduled” service visits. First owners also receive four years of roadside assistance.
If you happen to find a vehicle that you love, and the above warranties aren’t available, talk to your salesperson about what extended warranties might be available. Dealerships often offer extended service plans through their finance departments that are specifically made to cover your purchase.
