Growing up in the suburbs, I had a reality check when I moved to the cities during my college years. The parking spots were tighter, roads narrower, and all of a sudden, my only option for parking on the street was now parallel. Needless to say, I had to trade in my large SUV for a coupe. Was it necessary? Maybe not, but was it helpful? Very. With that in mind, I came up with my list of my five favorite vehicles for city driving, with help and recommendations from my California Jeep dealer. Ready? Let’s go!
1 – Volkswagen Jetta – The Jetta is affordable, compact, and a nice car to drive. It rides smooth, responds well, and gets great gas mileage (28 city, 40 highway). I like this pick because it’s a reliable vehicle, however it can be expensive to fix.
2 – Honda Civic – Another compact option, the civic is known for it’s gas mileage as well (31 city, 42 highway). It’s available in a coupe, sedan and hatchback to fit your lifestyle whatever your needs might be.
3 – Chrysler 200 – Moving up to a more mid-size sedan, is the Chrysler 200. You may find it to be more comfortable and spacious than the first two options above, especially if you’re regularly using the backseat for passengers.
4 – Dodge Dart – Another affordable option with great gas mileage, the Dodge Dart gets up to 40 mpg highway and comes in at well under $20,000 brand new. It is a compact sedan, allowing for the four doors you need to be convenient while still being small enough to fit in those tight parking spaces.
5 – Ford Escape – The list deserves a small SUV to be considered. I’m a fan of these because you’re able to stow cargo without driving a large, bulky vehicle. Meanwhile, you’re also getting better gas mileage than a truck or large SUV.
There is a great selection of vehicles out there that fit the profile of being great with city driving. What make and model would you add to the list? Leave a comment below!
