Many times when flying into a new city, you may consider renting a vehicle for your stay. There are so many options out there now, and it’s hard to know what is important when you’re planning to rent a car in a completely different state. Thanks to the advice from a Virginia Dodge dealer, here are some tips to keep in mind next time you are visiting a new place and needing a vehicle.
Rent at the airport.
Typically when you fly into a new city, the airport offers a full lineup of rental vehicle options. This typically includes franchises like Hertz, Alamo, Enterprise or Budget (just to name a few). Sometimes though, you’ll find that you’re paying more when you rent from the airport because of the ease and convenience of being able to load your bags and leave from right there.
Rent at an off-site location.
If you can take a taxi or Uber to an off-site location to pick up your rental, you might be able to save as much as half the cost of your car rental (depending on location of course). Factor in the cost it will take you to get there and determine if it will still be less than what you would’ve been charged at the airport location. You may just luck out!
Consider alternative options.
There is a new service out now called Turo, and essentially it’s like an AirBnb but for cars. You can pick up your rental, or have it delivered. You can choose what type of car you’d like to drive and pay about 35% less than you would at a big-name car rental company.
Bypass the rental and look locally.
If you don’t think you’ll be needing a vehicle for large trips or many trips, then you may be able to get by without renting a car altogether. There are so many ways to get around now (including Lyft, Uber and taxi) and of course, don’t forget local transportation like buses, train lines, or subways.
There are plenty of options out there now, you just have to do your research before your trip and do some bargain hunting as well. Weigh your options and do what works best for you!
