Up until a couple years ago, I wasn’t familiar with the new ‘trunk or treat’ tradition that happens around Halloween. The perk to this concept is that it’s less walking for the kids, it’s thought of to be safer, and it’s a good way for kids to get their trick-or-treating fix without driving to stranger’s homes and knocking on their door.
To prepare for a ‘trunk or treat’ event, you’ll need to think of a theme to decorate your trunk (and yourselves) with. The more creative the better, and sometimes they’ll even have a contest for the best decorated trunk – that could be you this year! Here are some fun ideas to consider.
- A scene from Where’s Waldo
- The Frozen castle
- Star Wars
- Dr. Seuss land
- Paris, France
- Angry Birds
- Hillbilly land
- Peppa Pig family
- Noah’s Ark
- Peanuts (Charlie Brown)
- Safari
- Under the Sea
- Luau or Beach theme
- Mickey Mouse
- Aliens
Don’t have a trunk? That’s okay, my friends at the California Chrysler dealer says a tailgate, hatchback or lift gate is all the same! In fact, it can make your theme all the more interesting and unique. If you’re in this boat, here are some clever ideas to make it work!
- Football field
- Ice hockey rink
- Mini golf course
- Barnyard
- Wizard of Oz
- Playground
- Food truck
Don’t forget to bring the candy! Get creative with how you hand it out, depending on what your theme is, it can be really fun. Let’s say you went with the barnyard theme, how about handing out candy in a milk bucket or a slop pail? Or if you go with a Dr. Seuss theme, you could use the infamous Cat in the Hat hat to hold your candy.
It’s a blast to get involved and participate in a Trunk or Treat event. What ideas have you done in the past? I’d love to hear your ideas!
