With October being National Car Care Month, I wanted to raise awareness to a few ways that you can maintain and check up on your vehicle this month. If you’re like most people, you probably see lights on your dashboard and ignore them, hear noises under the hood and ignore them, the list could go on and on. But that ends today! Let’s take a look at a few simple things you can do to help care for your car, as suggested by this stellar Arizona Chrysler dealer.
1. Check tire pressure and condition. It’s easy to neglect your air pressure levels and condition of your tires, we take for granted that we can jump in our vehicles and just go, every time that we need to go somewhere. It’s important to check these levels though every now and then, just to ensure that we won’t end up on the side of the road somewhere with a blown tire.
2. Check your oil level and it’s condition. I think we all know that it’s important to check our oil levels from time to time and make sure that we have enough in there to help prevent engine problems. But it’s also important to check to see if it’s dirty and needs to be replaced as well. To check your level, you’ll simply pull out the dipstick and wipe it off with a dry towel. Then place the dipstick back in to check the oil level. This ensures an accurate reading. To check on the clarity, you’ll simply look at the color of the oil on the towel – if it’s dark and black, it’s time to change it. If it’s a dark brown with a clearish look, it’s good!
3. Check on your battery. If you’re battery is somewhere around five years or older, you’re going to want to keep an eye on it because that can cause you issues in the cold weather that’s coming. I’m always an advocate of carrying a set of jumper cables with you at all times too, you never know when you’ll need them!
4. Check your lights. Headlights, tail lights, blinkers, make sure they’re all in working order. Have a friend or family member help you if you need to check your brake lights as well. If the light is out, replace it as soon as possible.
