I was walking through Target the other day, shopping for diapers, wipes, formula, you know – the usual, when I noticed they had travel makeup bags on clearance (okay so they’re not exactly in the same aisle- or general side of the store, but a girl’s gotta scan the clearance when said girl is at Target – it’s just an unspoken rule us women abide by)… Anyways, these cute travel makeup bags gave me a lightbulb moment because I was currently battling a problem – I’ll break it down for you.
Problem: Trying to switch from diaper bag to purse or tote quickly and always forgetting something when doing so. Carrying around a large diaper bag with everything on the market for babies just doesn’t work.
Solution: I needed something that would hold all the important items I would need to switch over when swapping bags, quickly and easily. Something like oh, say, a makeup bag. I found this one on the clearance end cap for I think $7? I seen it as a diamond in the rough. Here’s how I created my repurposed diaper bag kit.
I took out the loofah and little plastic bottles (I can save them for some other time, another project perhaps) and replaced them with the goods. The plastic part at the bottom (since it was the most waterproof pocket) held the diapers.
The top zipper part includes a changing pad, and in the middle, there was another plastic zipper spot. I ended up tracing around the wipes package pop-up part and cut it out.
Then popped in the wipes container and voila! The wipes are held in the pouch, and I can pull out wipes without removing the whole package. Win!
Super easy project, and it’s been really convenient. I also love that there is the little hanging tab on the top because you can hang it on the changing station when you’re changing diapers and it’s right there.
It could be an even cheaper project if you already have an old makeup bag like this that you don’t use anymore. I couldn’t find the old one I had from Mary Kay back in the day, so this one was the next best thing 🙂
There are a bunch on Amazon to choose from:
Here is Target’s current selection of travel makeup bags, I think there are a few on clearance yet, but keep your eyes open in-store, you might have better luck.
What kinds of solutions have you come up with when it comes to storing your baby/kids items? I’d love to hear in the comments below!!
