If you’ve ever had a little one facing a medical procedure, you know the mix of emotions that hits—your heart wants to scoop them up, protect them, and somehow make it all feel less scary. As a mom, I’ve been there, and as a writer, I wanted to create a resource that genuinely helps families walk through those big feelings.
That’s why Adley and I are so excited to share our newest children’s book, Chloe’s Big Brave Day, now available through Carlson & Co. Press.

This story is especially meaningful to us because it’s designed for kids who are preparing for a tonsillectomy—or honestly, any procedure where they might feel nervous about what’s ahead. If you’ve been searching for a kids tonsillectomy book, a tonsillectomy book for kids, or even a surgery book for kids that explains things in a way that feels safe and empowering, this one was truly written with your family in mind.

Why We Wrote This Book
Earlier this year, our family walked through some medical challenges with our oldest daughter. Watching her navigate the unknown was what sparked this entire project. I wanted kids to have a story that gives them language for their feelings, shows them exactly what bravery can look like, and helps them feel a little less alone.
In Chloe’s Big Brave Day, Chloe learns what to expect before her tonsillectomy, discovers small moments of courage along the way, and sees how her bravery grows through the entire experience. The tone is warm, honest, and reassuring—the way we all wish these conversations could feel when our kids are scared.
What Makes This Book Different
There are plenty of tonsillectomy books out there, but very few speak directly to children in a way that feels both comforting and empowering. This book was created to fill that gap.
Gentle explanations
Everything is age-appropriate, simple, and comforting—no scary language, just honest, clear descriptions of what the day may look like.
Emotional reassurance
Kids will see their own feelings reflected back to them, helping normalize fear, nerves, and courage.
Beautiful kid-created artwork
The illustrations were done by Adley, which gives the book a whimsical, childlike charm that parents and kids love.
Perfect for pre-op conversations
Whether you’re reading this the night before surgery, in the waiting room, or leading up to the big day, it helps open the door for calm, supportive conversations.
