I love the thrill of a road trip. It gives you the unique opportunity to make new memories together and experience new things all at the same time. It gets you out of the mundane and everyday routine and out into the fresh air and *hopefully* sunshine.
Unfortunately road trips can also pose some problems typically from a health and wellness standpoint. The ease of just grabbing fast food, sitting in a car all day, and not getting much exercise can do some damage on your body. So today, along with my friends at this Louisiana Chrysler dealer, we’re sharing five things you can do to make your upcoming road trip much healthier.
1) Pack healthy snacks.
That’s probably one of the tips you expected, but sometimes we don’t pack a good enough variety or just enough in general. Things like nuts, dried berries, prepped veggies, fruit, beef jerky or berries are great options. Just be mindful about portion sizes. Just because it’s healthier doesn’t mean it’s unlimited in portions.
2) Take breaks to stretch, walk or hike.
Sitting stagnant in a car all day isn’t going to make your body happy. Instead, take frequent breaks to check out the scenery, do a bit of stretching or even go for a walk or hike at a local hot spot. Even shopping can be considered an option to move your body, as long as you take a break from sitting you’re doing great!
3) Resist the urge to grab fast food.
The number one thing to staying healthy on your road trip is resisting the temptation to grab fast food. Sometimes we’re so enamored by the quickness and ease of fast food that it just seems like our best option. But if you set yourself up for success, you can stomp out any temptation that might arise. You can make quick daily stops to a grocery store or local farmers market to pick up fresh, nutritious ingredients for some easy car meals. Things like wraps, salads, or sandwiches are much better choices than greasy, fatty foods.
4) Fill up the water bottle.
It’s always important to stay hydrated to help your body to perform at it’s best, but at the same time you don’t want to drink too much water that you’re stopping in every town to use a restroom! Find a happy median and stick to it. One easy way to make this attainable is to bring your own reusable water bottle. It helps to keep down on plastic bottle waste and it also makes it easier to just fill up whenever you get the chance.

These are some of my favorite ways to make your road trips healthier. Making conscious decisions to be kind to your mind and body can go a long way to making your trip even more enjoyable.
Happy travels!
